Questions we frequently get asked a lot :)
-
Absolutely.
You don't need to be a surfer to come to DRIFT. Complete beginners are very welcome, as are experienced surfers who simply want more time in the water or to get some video analysis.
We divide surf sessions according to experience wherever possible, and our emphasis is always on confidence, enjoyment and connection with the ocean rather than performance. We have a coach / lifeguard with our small groups and we like to create a safe, fun and encouraging atmosphere for our guests.
The best surfer is always the one having the most fun - its cheesy but its true!
-
No.
The ocean is at the heart of DRIFT, but there is no pressure to do everything.
Depending on the retreat, you might choose yoga, meditation, walking, swimming, creativity, breathwork, talks, treatments — or simply some precious time doing absolutely nothing. Being close to the ocean brings benefits from the negative ions released, no matter what you do! It’s your retreat and there’s no pressure to do anything other than whatever you feel like doing.
-
Yes — and many people do.
One of the most special things about DRIFT is the community that forms when people step away from everyday life together.
Come alone. You won't feel alone for long.
-
Not at all.
Our sessions are designed to be welcoming and adaptable. You don't need to be flexible, experienced or able to touch your toes. Yoga is union and this is about time to return to yourself and be in your body and reconnect with yourself for a time.
Come exactly as you are.
-
There isn't a "DRIFT age".
Our retreats attract people at different stages of life who share a curiosity about wellbeing, adventure, creativity and living a little more consciously. We love the fact that people of all ages join us from 20s-60s we have had many times where the shared wisdom and joy has been across many decades and we love that.
If you're wondering whether you'll fit in: you probably will.
-
There isn't really a typical DRIFT day.
Mother Nature is the boss.
The tide, weather and waves help determine our rhythm. A day might begin with meditation or yoga before heading to the ocean, followed by an incredible nourishing meal and an afternoon of creativity, conversation, exploration or rest.
Evenings might bring a sound bath, Yoga Nidra, storytelling, dinner together or simply an early night.
We create a framework — and leave space for magic to happen.
-
Definitely not.
We actively encourage you to listen to your body.
Skip something. Have a bath. Read your book. Walk by the sea. Sleep.
Sometimes the most important part of retreating is giving yourself permission not to do anything.
-
Food is one of the three original pillars of DRIFT.
Expect beautiful, nourishing, predominantly plant-based food using local and organic produce wherever possible.
We can cater for most dietary requirements — please tell us when booking.
And yes, there is dessert :)
-
Once you've booked, we'll send you a retreat guide with everything you need to know.
For our ocean retreats you'll generally need comfortable clothes, swimwear, warm layers, outdoor clothing and an open mind.
Surf equipment and mats are provided.
-
Completely.
Travelling somewhere new, joining a group or trying something you've never done before can feel daunting.
DRIFT isn't about being the best surfer, the bendiest yogi or the most spiritual person in the room.
It's about showing up.
We'll take it from there.
-
Not necessarily.
Some DRIFT experiences are created specifically for women, while others are mixed.
We'll always make this clear on the individual retreat page.
-
Every retreat is different, so check the individual experience for full details.
Generally, DRIFT includes the core programme, coaching, activities, equipment where specified and nourishing food.
Residential retreats will clearly state whether accommodation is included.
Flights, travel, alcohol, treatments and optional extras are not included unless specifically stated.
-
We adapt.
DRIFT was born beside the ocean, so flexibility is part of our DNA.
Surf sessions may move, activities may swap around and occasionally Mother Nature creates an entirely different plan.
Some of our favourite DRIFT moments have happened because the original plan changed.
-
Cancellation terms vary depending on the experience, so please check the conditions when booking.
For residential retreats, we strongly recommend taking out appropriate travel insurance.
-
It doesn't mean escaping your life.
It means stepping away from the noise for long enough to hear yourself again.
Moving your body.
Getting in the ocean.
Eating beautiful food.
Having conversations that matter.
Laughing.
Resting.
Trying something new.
Remembering what makes you feel alive.
And returning to everyday life with your cup a little fuller.
